Here are just a few:
- Go On A Bug Hunt
This bug jar has been a major hit in our house but you could easily grab a small Tupperware and poke some holes in the lid. See how many bug friends you can find! You can also take along a sketch pad and color pencils to draw your discoveries.
2. Water Balloon Target Practice
Fill up a bag of water balloons and tie them up on a string. Hang your string of balloons between two trees or anywhere in your yard you can tie them up. Grab some nerf guns and let the kids get in some target practice. Save yourself some time and use the water balloons that you can fill all at once. Plus you don’t even need to tie them up!
3. Outdoor Movie Night
Drape a white sheet on your fence or the side of your house and have a movie night under the stars. A simple projector, some yummy treats and a few lawn chairs makes for a fun family experience! You could also mix it up and lay out a big comforter on the lawn or have fun with a blow up pool and some pillows and blankets.
4. Shaving Cream Play
One of the joys of being outside is you can let the kids be kids and not worry about the mess! Do something different with that old water table and fill it with shaving cream. If you don’t have a water table a simple plastic tub will do just fine or even a baking sheet. Get creative with a theme like “under the sea”. You could use some simple sea creature figures and add a few drops of blue food coloring and let those imaginations work!
5. Water Gun Painting
All you need is a couple of water guns and paint and you’ve got yourself some out of the box art. If you’re comfortable, you can use some watercolor paint or finger paints and have them go to town on the backyard fence! Or you can tape up some butcher paper if you prefer!
