As the New Year begins so many people are talking about their goals and resolutions. I have decided to start 2020 off with a different approach.
Now typically I would make a goal to get to bed earlier or go to the gym more often, which would usually be fizzled out by the end of February, but not this year. While these are positive goals to strive for and areas in my life I definitely need to make progress in, I have chosen a different route.
Focusing on scripture and a word to sum up that scripture has been on my heart entering this new year. Meditating on God’s word as a daily reminder of where to fix my eyes is what I think I have been missing all the years before.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
This verse resonates with me on so many levels. It is so hard to go from living one way to trying to live for Christ. Changing your playmates and your playground is hard and can be lonely at times. Reading this reminds me that in reality I am never alone. Although it may seem that way and it is easy to follow the crowd, I know that my Heavenly Father is always with me and His way is more perfect than mine and I can be confident that I can trust Him.
The word to sum up this verse is Courage. Courage to be content. Courage to trust. Courage to lean on His strength. Courage to not be afraid and courage to press on and follow His path. I plan to post this word up in my bedroom, bathroom mirror, car, little places as small reminders to a bigger picture.
What’s your verse and/or word for the New Year? I’d love to hear from you!
