Back To School…But Not

With back to school season in full swing I thought I’d take a moment to share our back to school (but NOT) journey. Let me explain…

Back To School

What I Thought I Knew

I never in my wildest dreams EVER thought that I would be a homeschooling mom. My husband was actually the one who first brought the idea to light and I quickly turned that down without hesitation. How could I teach our kids? They would miss out on so much…and how would they socialize? I would go crazy. They would go crazy. Little did I know, God had other plans for us. I stumbled across a homeschool convention while browsing online and decided to look into it. I have no idea why, but for some reason I bought tickets and decided to attend and see what exactly this homeschool thing was all about.

Change Of Heart

I can’t explain it but a switch was flipped and I left that convention feeling completely different about homeschool. I was so encouraged and so inspired and everything changed. I had been praying for God to show me what we were supposed to do for our kids. Should we move to a better school district? Should we do private school? I honestly started out this search based on fear. After that convention, I can say without a doubt that God pressed it upon my heart that this was what we were supposed to do for our family. It suddenly changed from fear of what my kids might encounter leaving our home and what their environment might be, to actually wanting to have my kids at home because time flies! I want to take advantage of every moment I have with my kids before their gone because God entrusted them to me for such a short time to disciple them and lead them closer to Him.

Moving Forward

I am so excited to begin this journey with our kids. We love to travel and love the flexibility that homeschool provides to make memories together and lead our children in the way they should go. Every family makes their own choices for their own reasons and I know that not everyone feels led to homeschool and that’s okay! This is just what I feel the Lord has called us to do and I am choosing to be obedient. I know that I don’t have the patience or the energy but God does. I know I can rely on Him for what I lack.
